Note 1: Representatives from organizations working with immigration & refugee issues will be at tables with information and what you might do to help. A suggested reading list on these topics will be available, as well as opportunities for purchasing books authored by the presenters.

Presenters

Barbara Miner
An award-winning journalist, Miner has been a reporter, writer and editor for more than 40 years, for publications ranging from the Milwaukee Journal, the New York Times, & the LA Times to UPI, Milwaukee Magazine and The Progressive. Her article, The New Land: Milwaukee’s Changing Immigration Landscape, was featured in the April 2018 edition of Milwaukee Magazine.

Sumudu Atapattu
The Director of Research Centers and Senior Lecturer at UW Law School, Atapattu teaches in the area of International Environmental law and climate change and human rights. She is author of numerous publications and books on these topics, including

Human Rights Approaches to Climate Change:
Challenges and Opportunities

and, coming in April, 2019,
Human Rights and the Environment: Key Issues.
Ms. Atapattu was born in Sri Lanka.

Mary Flynn
The Program Manager of Refugee Resettlement, Flynn has been with Lutheran Social Services of Wisconsin & Upper Michigan for more than 25 years. She joined the Refugee Resettlement Services Program in December 2009, where she is responsible for refugee resettlement operations and services, staff development and training, federal compliance and reporting, and community and congregational outreach.

Barbara Graham
As the managing attorney for Catholic Charities’ Legal Services for Immigrants program since 1999, Graham leads a staff of five attorneys and two paralegals in assisting 4,000 immigrants per year. A graduate of Marquette University Law School, Ms. Graham has won the Thomas G. Cannon Equal Justice Medal from the Legal Aid Society of Milwaukee, a Pro Bono Hero Award from the American Immigration Lawyers Association, a Leader in the Law Award from the Wisconsin Law Journal, and the Attorney of the Year for Law-Related Education from the State Bar of Wisconsin. Legal Services for Immigrants has won the Rebuilding Lives Award, from Milwaukee County, the Pro Bono Program of the Year from the Milwaukee Bar Association, and the Pro Bono Program of the Year from the State Bar of Wisconsin.
